HAL 2000 Home Control System is an environmental control unit program designed for use by individuals with severe physical disabilities, spinal cord injury, and upper extremity disabilities. It enables the user to control any number of lights, appliances, and other devices through a computer using voice input. Lighting and appliances can be turned on and off, and the user can set schedules, with voice commands delivered via telephone or computer-connected microphone. Commands can also be delivered through the Internet. When commands are carried out, the program provides voice confirmation. The software also enables users to get information from the Internet and to receive and send e-mail by voice. OPTIONS: HALvoices add-on replaces computer voices with human-sounding voices. COMPATIBLITY: For use on IBM and IBM-compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor; Windows 98/Me/XP/2000 operating system, XP/2000 recommended; 1 gigabyte (GB) random access memory (RAM); 40 megabytes (MB) free disk space for installation, 60 MB for normal use; multimedia PC with microphone, speakers, and sound card; HAL-compatible modem, telephone line, and Internet connection.
