Red, White & Rock: Grayson group to debut album at veterans event

Grayson Journal-Enquirer - 4/5/2019

April 03-- Apr. 3--Grayson based trio The Vindicated have a new album set to release Memorial Day weekend. But the group wanted the release to be about more than just their hard rock sound. They also wanted to honor those who have fought and sacrificed for the freedoms they enjoy.

So, on May 24, when their new album Volume releases, the band and others will perform a show at the Boyd County Community Center. That show, Red, White & Rock, is not only free for any veteran with military ID, but will also serve as a fundraiser for Honor Flight Kentucky.

Honor Flight Kentucky is a non-profit group that flies veterans to Washington D.C., at no cost to them or their caregivers, to visit the war memorials there as a way to honor their service.

"The word 'excitement' has probably been overused since Aaron (Kitchen, guitarist for The Vindicated) reached out to us to be a part of this event," said Phill Pittman, board member with Honor Flight Kentucky. "But we're really excited and we can't thank him enough for inviting us to participate."

Kitchen, whose father and uncle are veterans, took time during the press conference announcing the show to thank the other bands playing the event with them as well as those who helped organize the press conference and the show. But most of his praise was reserved for veterans and for Honor Flight for partnering with them on the event.

"I want to thank my partners, and I say partners in a very affectionate sense," Kitchen said.

Kitchen said that in all his years in finance and music he had never had a partner as excited to help with an event as Tal Callihan, or Callihan's restaurant in Ashland, who hosted the press event. He also thanked Pittman for the work that Honor Flight does.

"I'm so happy that (Honor Flight) was so different, and I see the difference and I see the value in your organization, and I can't wait to get this event launched... so we can do what we want to do. Which is raise as much money as possible for Honor Flight Kentucky and be a special part of whatever flight that goes toward."
